In this second course in the high school integrated sequence, students continue their
investigation of important algebraic and geometric ideas. Students use the algebraic tools and techniques they developed in their prior course as they deepen their study of functional relationships. Students also continue to apply the tools of transformation and construction, as well as formal mathematical reasoning, logic, and proof, to further their investigation of geometric ideas.

Agile Mind lessons foster student engagement and deep mathematical understanding through rich problem-solving activities, real-world connections, powerful visualizations and animations, and frequent opportunities for student discourse and collaboration.

In this course, students will:

  • Solve real-world problems using a variety of tools
  • Model and solve important problems with absolute value and quadratic functions and related equations
  • Extend their understanding of exponents to rational exponents
  • Develop an understanding of inverse relations
  • Use the classical methods of finding the area of two-dimensional shapes, including quadrilaterals and circles
  • Learn basic geometry of three-dimensional shapes including methods of finding simple volumes and surface areas
  • Investigate and solve problems involving the trigonometry of right triangles
  • Explore and relationships related to lines, segments, arc length, and sectors of circles
  • Use geometric representations and symbols to solve problems and prove theorems
  • Continue to strengthen their knowledge of the connections between algebra and geometry
  • Extend their understanding of probability as they investigate conditional probability and independence

Topics are designed to provide ample opportunity for students to develop their ability to apply important mathematical processes and practices as they master the content described in next-generation college and career readiness standards.
